Live Birth Success Rates: NeoFertility vs IVF

Recently I was invited to support a presentation by Dr Phil Boyle at Neo Fertility for a small group of infertility couples in East Anglia.

Dr Boyle very kindly recorded a video for us, which is available here on our blog.

On this post I would like to highlight the key take-aways from the presentation specifically on the success rates of IVF vs RRM/Neo Fertility.

Neo Fertility's crude live birth rate (inc early quitters) exceeds IVF, at 32%

Most Punishing Approach using Crude Statistics to include all Early Quitters

  • 412 couples attended 2+ consultations

  • 132 live births = 32% crude live birth rate

  • 21% of couples with previous IVF or ICSI

  • 1 multiple pregnancy (0.75%)

  • Average female age is 37.

  • Data sources: RRM data from Neo Fertility 2015; IVF data from HFEA 2012.

Full Treatment Plan with Neo Fertility is at least twice as successful as an IVF cycle

Full Treatment Plan with Neo Fertility is at least twice as successful as an IVF cycle

  • Same data as per the above, i.e. RRM data from Neo Fertility 2015; IVF data from HFEA 2012.

  • Life table analysis used to correct for early quitters - what if they stayed for the full Neo Fertility treatment plan/12 effective cycles?

  • Results reviewed by independent university researchers

  • Full treatment plan with Neo Fertility is at least twice as successful as an IVF cycle.

  • Economics: approx £5,000 for 1 IVF cycle vs £1,500 (€1750) for full treatment plan, i.e. a factor of approx 3.5

Full Treatment Plan with Neo Fertility is comparable to 3x IVF cycles based on earlier data from 2009.

Full Treatment Plan with Neo Fertility is comparable to 3x IVF cycles based on earlier data.

  • Using earlier IVF data from New England Journal of Medicine 2009.

  • Assuming couples stay on for full treatment plan/12 effective cycles with Neo Fertility.

  • Neo Fertility is as successful as 3x IVFs.

  • Economics: approx £15,000 for 3 IVF cycle vs £1,500 (€1750) for full treatment plan, i.e. a factor of 10.

Summary

  1. It is highly recommended that couples stay on the full Neo Fertility treatment plan to attempt for at least 12 effective cycles. The maximum term of the Neo Fertility plan is 24 months.

  2. The success rates from full Neo Fertility treatment plan far exceeds 1 cycle of IVF while 3.5 cheaper than 1 privately-funded IVF cycle.

  3. The success rates from full Neo Fertility treatment plan are comparable to 2-3x privately-funded IVF cycles at a fraction of the cost.

N.B. Please note that all medications, blood tests and ultrasound scans are additional costs to both NeoFertility and IVF treatments.
